Download Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens Profile for Adobe LightroomΒ (1 kb)

After correction, uncropped:

Note distortion at the edges. Sorry, guys β€” it's fisheye, you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs. Usable horizontal FOV is around 90Β°.

Calibration note for Samyang and other manual focus lens. Samyang 8mm does not provide apperture and any other lens data. So, Adobe Lens Profile Creator thought, it is 50mm lens with undefined apperture. The easiest way to provide this data, is to update DNG calibration files with simple script.

set_samyang_lens.cmd:

@echo off
set FocalLength=8.0
set MaxApertureValue=22.0
set LensModel=Samyang 8 mm f/3.5 Fisheye
set LensMake=Samyang
set LensInfo=8.0 8.0 3.5 3.5
set Lens=8mm

if "%~1" NEQ "" (
set ApertureValue=%~1
) else (
set ApertureValue=3.5
)

set ApertureValue=3.5 (insert your actual apperture here)

for %%X in (*.DNG) do (
exiftool -P -overwrite_original_in_place -Lens="%Lens%" -FocalLength="%FocalLength%" -Aperture="%ApertureValue%" -ApertureValue="%ApertureValue%" -LensModel="%LensModel%" -LensMake=%LensMake% -LensInfo="%LensInfo%" %%X
)

Run it from command line in the directory with DNG files, specify actual apperture as only parameter. For example, Β«set_samyang_lens 11.0Β» will set apperture f/11.0 for each DNG file in current directory, along with other lens data. This script works under Windows. Tell me if you need same script for Mac.

What test chart did you use? I chose the biggest one with the smallest grid and printed it on a roll of paper. I used usual a4 printer, it cropped most of the chart so i got checkerboard about 110cm long and as wide as a4 sheet.
I've shoot about 40 images with overlap but adobe lens prifile creator failed to detect grid. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for uploading your profile though. I'll be using it until I learn to make this stuff myself

Glad to hear you find the profile useful.

I used 13Γ—21, 36 points test chart, printed on A4. If I could, I would print on A3.
9 shots at f/3.5, 5.6, 7.2, 8, 10 β€” from two distances: 90 shots total. On some shots I got error in Lens Creator, I wonder if it's because of unsufficient lighting.
The reasons why ALC rejects some photos are unclear for me. Maybe it is light, maybe it is chart size. So, main directions are: print bigger charts, give more light.

Hi! Unfortunately the profile download link is broken (404 error) and it redirects to your photography page (the profile link in the blog on that page is also broken) - is there any chance I could get it some other way? Thank you!

Seems, now it ok. Maybe it was because of recent LJ DDoSes?
Anyway, to avoid future inconviences, I've made a backup location on megauploads. You can download the file here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5NB5N30Z).

What do I need to do with the LCP file?
How do I add the profile to lightroom?

From: [identity profile] akry.livejournal.com
Just put it into "%APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0" folder and restart Lightroom.

Do you try it on photos taken with Canon 7D + Samyang?
Putting all together:
1. Canon 7D & Samyang Fisheye.
2. lcp into %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0 (in W7 it worth to try also c:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\)
Image
3. Reload LR. Select photo and enable Profile Correction:

Actually .lcp is a plain text file.
Open it in any text editor and try to play with camera model strings like this:

Hope it will help.

What exactly you've changed to make it work? It could be useful for others.

I opened the file in notepad and than I searched (CTRL+F) for the word "7D" and I changed it to 500D (need to change all of them) and then I changed the profile name to canon 500d.
after that I had to get into CameraRaw first and than it can work on lightroom.

Thanks you so much.

What do you mean? The file is the same, LCP files location is /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0/ (as far as I know).

Thanks! I just took the hood off of mine and also tweaked with the focus ring in order to get some sharp images at about 3cm away. I still see vignetting on my full frame 6D, but I imagine there isn't much else I can do about that other than to crop slightly.
